Work related stress

1. The plaintiff was awarded damages for pain and suffering, damages for past economic loss, and damages for future economic loss – these are examples of general compensatory damages.

2. These damages achieve the purpose of restoration to only a limited extent. The plaintiff suffered mental and psychological harm and it is not possible to literally restore her to the position she was in before the harm occurred. The damages might financially restore the plaintiff on paper, but this was years after the event (2009 to 2012) and after time, money and emotional effort would have been spent on the lawsuit.

3. These damages achieve the purpose of compensation to an extent.Damages are able to compensate the plaintiff for rights infringements, even when the harm was not financial and cannot be literally restored. However, this is not exactly the same as restoration. Financial compensation for non-financial harm is superficial and reduces the meaning of property and experiences down to a simple dollar value. This is not true to how people really experience things, and money may therefore feel inadequate and hollow.
