A minority Gillard Government
- Both the Labor Party and the Coalition held 72 seats in the lower house, which for neither of themwas enough to form Government in their own right.
- Julia Gillard was able to gain the support of three independents and the member for the Greens.
- The minority Gillard Government had the confidence of the lower house in relation to the budget and key parts of the Labor Government platform. The independents and the Greens member of parliament, Mr Bandt, said they would support the passage of supply bills and back Labor in unwarranted no-confidence motions.
