Gina Rinehart considers applying for an injunction

  1. Rinehart was considering applying for an injunction against Nine because she and her lawyers believed, based on the promotional material, that the show was going to contain defamatory material.
  2. Damages might have been inadequate in this case as their purposes are to financially restore or compensate the plaintiff. Injunctions have the power to prevent a defendant from doing something. In this case, Gina Rhinehart wanted to view a program that appeared as though it was going to contain defamatory material, before it went to air. Rinehart won the right to view the second instalment of ‘House of Hancock’ before it went to air.
